DIY Vapor Rub

DIY vapor rub

I was reading the Everything doTERRA Google group, searching for some ideas to support our respiratory system. I ran across a very basic recipe (thanks to Shannon E.)  for a salve that can be used for a vapor rub, so I adapted the formula to suit my family’s needs:

1/4 – 1/2 oz. beeswax
1/4 C. olive or coconut oil
10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
20 drops Rosemary essential oil
10 drops Peppermint essential oil
10 drops Wintergreen or White Fir essential oil

Melt the beeswax in a double boiler along with 1/4 cup coconut or olive oil.
When melted, let the mixture cool slightly, mix in the essential oils and pour into a clean 1/2 pint canning jar or even jelly jar.  If your rub is a little too solid or hard to spread, just remelt the mixture and add or oil.  If its too runny, add a bit more beeswax.  Feel free to tweak the oils to suit your own needs.  And the best part is there is no petroleum products!  Use liberally on feet, chests and backs.

I only use Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils from doTERRA.  To learn more, check out my posts about Getting Started with Essential Oils and How to Purchase Essential Oils.
